My Totally Awesome Funeral was my thesis project at Montclair State University that I adapted into a screenplay, directed and edited (2018).
I wanted to experiment with adapting pros stories, as well as, intricate and challenging cinematography and editing styles.
The original story was actually an essay written by father's college friend, Curtis Smith.
I found the essay in his book of short stories, The Species King.
I loved the idea of my character visually illustrating his ideal funeral.
This existentially charged film calls into question how much we humans should really consider death--or more specially, what happens to our physical form after we die.
